Tangihau Angus
Shepherd | Tangihau Angus
Tangihau Station is approx. 6600ha of medium to steep hill country running commercial sheep and beef. As well as the commercial stock operations, all staff have involvement with the Angus stud. The role will include a wide range of day-to-day farm duties across the commercial and stud operation.
Key responsibilities
- Stock movements with mustering on horseback and a team of dogs. All shepherds learn to break in horses.
- Livestock handling and animal welfare including animal health treatments.
- Pasture and feed quality monitoring and assistance with grazing management.
- Stud operation includes stud stock handling and participation in annual bull sale.
- Training and certification for ATV, tractor, chainsaw etc supplied, as required.
- Good farming knowledge and strong stockmanship
- A capable team of dogs (not essential for Juniors)
- Experience with farming hill country and horses is preferred but not essential
- Must be able to work as part of a team
- Good work ethic
- Be willing to learn
- Must be eligible to work in New Zealand
Tangihau Station is located 45 minutes drive from Gisborne city. Staff are involved in the local community with Ngatapa rugby and associated sports clubrooms a 20 minute drive. There is also plenty of outdoor recreational activities such as hunting and fishing on the property. Tangihau has a team of 6 permanent shepherds, with a total staff of 14.
- On-farm accommodation is provided in single shepherd's quarters with Wi-fi available.
- Weekday meals (and weekends as required to meet seasonal demands) are supplied by the station cook at the cookhouse.
- Food is otherwise supplied over the weekends where it can be cooked using the cooking facilities in the shepherd's quarters.
